The Red Box

Completed in 1941 for the diplomat and journalist Curzio Malaparte (whose real name was Kurt Erich Suckert) perched atop Punta Masullo, Villa Malaparte is a masterpiece in contemporary architecture. With its sweeping reverse pyramidal staircase inspired by Le Corbusier and distinct brick-red hue, Villa Malaparte featured prominently in Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 film Le Mépris starring Brigitte Bardot.
